PERFECTION ISN’T THE GOAL.
Remind yourself of this every day if you need to!
I still struggle with this sometimes, and I’m sure many of you do too.
3 Things That Help Me:
1) Am I happy with it?
Because that’s what actually matters! Shifting your focus to internal validation (Am I proud of myself? Do I know that I tried my best and did a good job?) vs external validation (What will my partner or parents or friends think about this?) is a GAME CHANGER!
2) Done is better than perfect.
Perfectionism can hold me back from getting anything done if I let it - nothing will ever be quite perfect so I’ll keep working on it, or feel guilty. I remind myself of this with work projects, housework, etc.
3) Everyone is failing at something.
I remind myself that no one’s life is perfect, despite how it may seem. We’re all in this together. And perfection isn’t achievable - so we can’t just “work harder” to get there. It doesn’t exist. And it’s also NOT the goal! Failing = Learning.
